Terms of Service

Welcome to The Next Chapter. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of The Next Chapter website and application (the “App”). By creating an account or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use The Next Chapter. By using the App, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

2. Your Account

• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account.
• You agree to provide accurate and current information when creating your account and profile.
• You may not create an account on behalf of someone else, or misrepresent your identity.
• We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

3. Circles, Events, and Community Conduct

The Next Chapter allows members to create and join “circles” (community groups), host and attend events, and interact with other members through discussions, reviews, and messages.

3.1 Hosting Events and Circles

• If you create an event or circle, you are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide (location, time, description) and for conducting yourself appropriately as a host.
• You are responsible for the safety and legality of any in-person or online event you organize.

3.2 Member Conduct

When using The Next Chapter, you agree not to:

• Harass, threaten, or discriminate against other members.
• Post false, misleading, defamatory, or fraudulent content.
• Share content that is obscene, hateful, or promotes violence.
• Use the App for any unlawful purpose, including scams or solicitation.
• Impersonate another person or entity.
• Attempt to access other members’ accounts or non-public areas of the App.
• Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access or collect data from the App without permission.

3.3 Reporting and Moderation

We provide tools for members to report inappropriate content, events, or behavior. We reserve the right to review reports, remove content, and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, at our discretion.

4. Subscriptions and Payments

• The Next Chapter offers free and paid subscription plans (“Essential” and “Plus”), with features as described on our Pricing page.
• Paid subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (monthly, 6-monthly, or annually, depending on your selected plan) through our payment processor, Stripe.
• By subscribing to a paid plan, you authorize us (via Stripe) to charge your chosen payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.
• You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings or the billing management portal. Cancellation will take effect at the end of your current billing period; we do not provide prorated refunds for partial billing periods except where required by law.
• Prices are subject to change. We will provide reasonable notice of any price changes before they take effect for existing subscribers.
• We are not responsible for any fees charged by your bank or payment provider in connection with your subscription.

5. User Content and Intellectual Property

5.1 Your Content

• You retain ownership of the content you post (event descriptions, circle descriptions, photos, discussion posts, reviews, etc.) (“User Content”).
• By posting User Content, you grant The Next Chapter a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, reproduce, and distribute that content as necessary to operate and promote the App.
• You represent that you have the right to post any content you share and that it does not infringe on the rights of any third party.

5.2 Our Content

• The Next Chapter’s name, logo, design, and platform features are owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute our branding or platform without permission.

6. Privacy

Our collection and use of your personal information is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

7. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with third-party services, including Google (sign-in and Maps/location), Stripe (payments), and others. Your use of these integrations is also subject to the applicable third party’s own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party services.

8. Disclaimers

• In-person events: The Next Chapter is a platform that connects members and facilitates event discovery. We do not organize, supervise, or guarantee the safety of any in-person event hosted by members. You attend and participate in events at your own risk.
• No warranty: The App is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
• User interactions: We do not endorse, and are not responsible for, the conduct of any member, whether online or in person.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Next Chapter and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the App, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless The Next Chapter and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the App, your User Content, or your violation of these Terms.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time, with or without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other members or the App. You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, through the App or by email. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Malaysia, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
